I made these Risograph prints in 2020 in assocation with the texts
from Gabriella Kemény for International Womans Day. Being a young poet, most of
her followers are young girls and women from Hungary. She often talks
about topics like mental health with her followers and she gives them a
platform to share their own difficulties. This experience lead her to recognize
that a lot of young women are suffering from anxiety, low self-confidence, and
oftentimes struggle to fit into their community. For these reasons we decided
to create pairings of texts and images, which were written to be encouraging
and validating, with images that symbolize personal growth and healing.
When I created the symbolisms for these prints, I used
two types
of flowers to refer to growth, strength, persistence and healing. The
first flower, known as rose canina, is widely recognized. When blooming,
its
petals are thin and vulnerable, but its fruit, the rosehip has a strengthening
effect on the immune system and its generally good for healing several
illnesses. The second flower, winter jasmine, is one of the first plants to
blossom at the end of winter, it is able to endure freeze and is the proclaimer
of spring
